In this interview, recorded in May 2018 at the BIEE’s fifth Future of Energy lecture, the speaker Steve Holliday Former CEO, National Grid, talks about the big energy trends, the role of the consumer in the future energy system, the role of policy, the need for Carbon Capture and Storage ( CCS) and industry skills. Steve argues that what the industry needs from government is a set of frameworks not a detailed plan, as there is too much uncertainty about future consumer behaviour, new technologies and so forth. The private sector should be allowed to innovate and drive change with government intervening only where something is clearly not going in the right direction – for example CCS.
