Scottish Energy Seminar: COP26 – the stepping stones to success for Government and Business?

This November’s United Nations Climate Change conference, Cop26, will bring together heads of state, climate experts and campaigners to agree coordinated action to tackle climate change, hosted by the UK government. It is being described as the most significant climate event since the 2015 Paris Agreement.

The previous summit, COP25 held in Madrid in 2019 has been criticised for a lack of agreed aims — the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, said he felt “disappointed” by how little was actually achieved. How can we achieve a better outcome this November? At the heart of any success must be a close co-operation between government and industry.

In this joint event between the British Institute of Energy Economics and the Business School’s Centre for Business, Climate Change, and Sustainability (B-CCaS), Lord Callanan, UK Government Minister for Climate Change and Corporate Responsibility and Keith Anderson, Chief Executive of Scottish Power and Chair of CBI Scotland will outline what each party is looking from the other to make this partnership, and COP26, succeed.

Our two main speakers will be joined by Professor Janette Webb, University of Edinburgh, and co-Director of the UK Energy Research Centre for a discussion and Q&A chaired by Professor Charles Hendry, President of the British Institute of Energy Economics and former UK Government Minister for Energy at the Department for Energy & Climate Change.
