Introduction
Each June BP publishes the annual data that has been collected on the world’s energy markets, to assess what has happened this last year and how last year’s experience relates to longer-term trends. The Review provides an objective global overview of energy production, consumption, trade, reserves and prices. The aim is to understand both the forces behind today’s headlines as well as the underlying trends that are shaping the new energy landscape.
What changes to global oil production and consumption drove the sharp fall in oil prices in 2014? How did slower economic growth in China and other emerging markets impact energy consumption? How has continuing strong growth in US shale oil and gas production altered its importance as an energy producer? In the run-up to the UN climate change conference in Paris, where are CO2 emissions rising and falling? Did the US remain the world’s leader in renewable energy use?
The 2015 Statistical Review presentation will be given by Paul Appleby, Head of Energy Economics at BP, and will be followed by a question and answer session.
Paul Appleby

Paul Appleby leads the analysis of long term energy market developments for BP. His career at BP spans 30 years, and includes a variety of roles in BP’s gas and alternative energy businesses. Most recently he was the custodian of the investment appraisal process for BP’s gas, power and renewables businesses worldwide.
He received his theoretical training in economics at Cambridge University (MA and MPhil); and served a practical apprenticeship as a Fellow of the Overseas Development Institute, posted to Malawi. He is an associate lecturer in energy economics at the University of Surrey.
